WVS Animal Hospital can perform comprehensive in house IDEXX blood testing. This allows us to diagnose conditions prior to anaesthesia, if your pet is unwell, or to monitor a chronic illness.
When your pet is unwell, in house testing gives us the advantage to have results quickly, for quicker treatment. IDEXX also provides access to our Veterinarians for a specialist opinion. Some blood and tissue testing is sent to an external laboratory for further analysis.
Our Vets perform a lot of in house cytology for skin and ear disease. Urine samples can be assessed quickly in our laboratory and culture samples sent away if necessary. Our Vets are highly skilled at performing a minimally invasive cell collection technique for lumps (that may potentially be cancer), by performing Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA). This is assessed in house and can also be sent away for Specialist opinion. This is always ideal prior to performing surgery on any lumps.
WVS Animal Hospital has the equipment on site to take quality digital radiographs or x-rays. This is a simple way to assess bones and joints. Our most common assessment is for Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) disease. Digital radiographs can now be easily sent for referral opinion via the internet if necessary.
Unlike humans, we cannot ask our patients to sit perfectly still, often in unnatural or uncomfortable positions. To enable quality radiographs, most procedures will require sedation or anaesthesia. This can aid pain management and minimises stress to your pet.
WVS Animal Hospital Veterinarians have abdominal Ultrasound skills. This is a non-invasive procedure to assess soft tissue organs such as bladder, kidney and liver. We occasionally refer to a specialist Ultrasonographer for complex or difficult cases. Sedation and fasting are invariably required. Your pet will be admitted to hospital in the morning and stay throughout the day.
