Anaesthesia & Theatre

Our Hospital has a modern, dedicated theatre and is well equipped to monitor your pet while under general anaesthesia. We pride ourselves on safe and modern anaesthetic drugs and techniques.

Intravenous fluids and pain relief are compulsory and not optional. Pets recovery areas have inbuilt, safe heating and comfortable bedding.

Quoting

Except for desexing surgery, we cannot provide estimates over the phone for surgical procedures.

You will require a consultation with one of our veterinarians first so we can examine your pet to establish whether they are healthy, determine the exact nature of the problem and the procedure required, and to discuss all of the options available to you.

Desexing

Windaroo Animal Hospital encourages responsible pet ownership and desexing of dogs and cats.

Included in a desexing procedure:

  • Admission into Hospital by the Veterinary Nurse
  • Pre-operative check by the Veterinarian.
  • Day stay hospitalisation.
  • Pre-operative pain relief and sedation.
  • Intravenous catheterization: for fluid therapy and drug administration.
  • Intravenous fluids: used to maintain your pets’ blood pressure while under anaesthesia and flush out the drugs to ensure a faster and smoother wake up (reduced “hangover” effect).
  • Tailored anaesthesia to best suit your pet’s needs. This usually involves a mixture of injectable and inhalant drugs.
  • Desexing procedure: for females it involves removing the ovaries and uterus (called an ovariohysterectomy or spey). In males, the testes are removed (castration).
  • Continuous monitoring: before, during and after the procedure.
  • Post-operative pain relief injection lasting 24 to 48 hours (+ dogs go home with two days of pain relief tablets).
  • 3-5 day post-op check.
  • 10 day sutures out recheck.
